The giant rhubarb, also known as the poor-man's umbrella is found in Latin America, Australia, New Zealand, Papuasia, Hawaii, Southeast Asia, Africa, and Madagascar. It has heart-shaped leaves of up to 3 meters in diameter and grows abundantly in Costa Rican mountainous elevations. The plant, thought to have been in existence since the late cretaceous period(66 mya) and grows best in very moist, but not wet, conditions and temperatures.
