The tropical rain forest biome is an ecosystem that covers about 7% of the Earth's surface. They are found all over the world but the majority of the tropical rain forest lies in South America in Brazil. The weather in the tropical rain forest is rainy yet pleasant all year round, day or night. Slash-and-burn is an agricultural technique that involves the cutting and burning of plants in forests or woodlands to create fields. It is subsistence agriculture that typically uses little technology. It is one of the primary causes of deforestation in tropics and permanent conversion of forest to permanent agricultural expansions. This unsustainable form of slashand- burn leads to soil degradation, soil erosion, loss of forest vegetation and threatens the survival of wild flora and fauna.
